VMware Licensing Change
VMware has announced a change to core licensing for there products.
This means that 1 CPU licens is equal to a maximum of 32 physical cores, so under the new model, one CPU license covers up to 32 cores in a single CPU. If the CPU has more than 32 cores, additional CPU licenses are required.
Most customer will not be affected by this change, for there existing installation.
Any customer who purchases VMware software per-CPU licenses, to be deployed on a physical server with more than 32-cores per CPU, prior to April 30, 2020 will be eligible for additional free per-CPU licenses to cover the cores on those CPUs. But the SnS will be affected by this i the future, since you have på pay for more CPUs.
See this VMware blog for more information here.
To check for if you are compliant, or need more licensses, see this VMware KB, this contains a PowerCLI script for checking this.
